Definitely? Maybe?

A poll of 40,000 people by the British Book of Hit Singles and NME.com have decided that the best album ever is Oasis’ Definitely Maybe. I’m not so sure. Dont get me wrong, I’m a big Oasis fan but I’m not prepaired to agree that it’s the best Album ever. Compare other albums in the top 100, I would go for a Smiths or Beatles album before Oasis. But then what do you go on? A complete album? An inspirational album? Most life affirming? It’s horses for courses I suppose.

Here’s the top ten;

1) Definitely Maybe, Oasis

2) Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, The Beatles

3) Revolver, The Beatles

4) OK Computer, Radiohead

5) (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, Oasis

6) Nevermind, Nirvana

7) The Stone Roses, The Stone Roses

8) Dark Side Of The Moon, Pink Floyd

9) The Queen Is Dead, Smiths

10) The Bends, Radiohead

    tubula bells? Hotel california?

    Was my mom voting?

I knew there were some good reasons what I didn’t read NME anymore.

I can’t believe ‘Screamadelica’ isn’t in the list. Maybe it rambles a bit in places but it’s one of the most important British albums ever man. House, Indie, Trip Hop, Gospel it’s all in that CD.

Also not sure why there’s no place for Neutral Milk Hotel’s ‘Aeroplane over the Sea’. I’d be happy if that was there, even if it was about number 91 by Snow Patrol (come on?! Snow Patrol?? the musical equivalent of reading the label on a shampoo bottle on the toilet because you’ve left your book downstairs).

Other than that the top 10 is pretty solid, maybe in the wrong order and a little too Anglophile, but no complaints really. Parklife should be higher, Kaisers lower, Shed Seven tribute band the Killers should be nowhere, Doolittle and Arcade Fire’s Funeral should be higher too and they’ve put the wrong Suede LP in.

The Stone Roses is number 1,

Dark Side of the moon is 2.

    Nothing else counts.

  4. What, no Bucks Fizz?
